65.29 Tools, Services for S/W Maintenance, Reverse and Re-Engineering From: Charles Stanley Smith After 35 man years of sponsored research as part of the Esprit REDO and RECYCLE projects, the Information Systems Engineering Group at the University of Limerick have formed a company called Piercom Ltd to commercialise the results of their work. Piercom are launching a set of Services and Tools for Software Maintenance and System Reverse-Engineering and Re-engineering. (82 lines)
Piercom launch a set of Services and Tools for Software Maintenance and System Reverse and Re-Engineering. The tools are intended to produce significant improvements in:- The Quality of System Documentation The efficiency of the Software Maintenace Process The Quality of the Software being Maintained The Speed at which large scale Re-engineering and Migration projects can be achieved The Controlability and Visibility of Maintenance Tasks. The Tool-set provides:- Inventory Analyses Quality Measurements Re-Documenation through many levels of automatically generated diagrams Structure Charts a la Jackson or Yourdon and Constantine or others. Run charts - Data Flow Diagrams from JCL Scripts Textual and Form based documentation - such as which files used where and how used. Which program, procedure, section or paragraph used where. Consistency of code presentation improvements. System level naming consistency with renaming where advised. Control Flow Restructuring. Removal of unreachable Code. Removal of unused Variables. Explicit naming of `Literals'. Explicit intialisation of Variables. Re-modularisation. Dialect conversion - ie COBOL I to COBOL II Screen/Form Conversion - ie IMS to Microfocus Screen Section. Support for downsizing The Toolset currently supports: COBOL I & II (74 & 85) IBM, ICL, Microfocus and VAX FORTRAN-77 DOS VSE and OS/370 JCL FMS FLG Form Descriptions CICS Screen MAps IMS FMT Descriptions The toolset runs on Sun with Openwindows or X/Motif.
