The River and Rowing
Museum building reaches its 'watertight' date in late November,
half way through the 57 week construction contract by Norwest Holst.
This is the stage when the 40-strong workforce under Project Manager
Richard Townley will have sealed off the building from the elements,
and a substantial amount of wall cladding will also be in place.
Topping out, the traditional ceremony to mark the watertight status,
will be in January, a celebration for everyone involved on the site.
Meanwhile, possible contemporary craft commissions within the building
are being researched with Nicola Kennedy of Artpoint. Thomas Eisle and
John Frankland, artists who have been studying the river in the context
of the
Thames Path, are developing ideas for works associated with the
building after discussions with architect David Chipperfield.
